Trichoscopy

Trichoscopy is a method of hair and scalp assessment (at high-magnification up to 100 times. The method is based on the technique of demoscopy and allows assessment of the structures of the epidermis, ends of hair follicles, hair shaft and vessels responsible for the microcirculation.

Trichodoscopy makes it possible to diagnose many diseases affecting our hair, without the need for invasive treatments. Owing to trichoscopy, it is now possible to diagnose hair loss problem, of a precise and painless nature.

Trichoscopy is recommended for:
  • Androgenetic alopecia among men and women
  • Frontal fibrosing alopecia
  • Acute telogen effluvium
  • Trichotillomania
  • Dermatological diseases affecting scalp

Undergoing a trichoscopic examination does not require any special preparation, it is absolutely non-invasive and not painful. The specialist uses handheld dermoscope or a digital videodermoscope to visualise hair and scalp structures. For a period of the visual examination, photographs of various areas of the head are taken, and then the obtained images are enlarged to the desired sizes. Based on the photographs taken and after a detailed analysis of the data, the specialist is able to make a diagnosis and propose a therapy schedule.
